*WHEW*... after much procrastination, and 13 variations (and many armor variations off to the side of the page), i've completed the Nightmare enough to my liking. why so many variations? because i needed to whittled down any concepts to get to the final design.
this concept was very complex and required many, many, many, many hours to tweak-it jusssst right... if at all...
but, if art has taught me anything, is that one can rarely be 100% satisfied with the final design, so no doubt in the future i'll be redesigning it again. but, for the moment, it's done, and i'm pleased
The Nightmare is a medium-heavy mecha, sporting a splitting sword that when combined creates a Big sword. because of this, the suit lacks a shield, though the forearms have an "arm guard" to block any in coming attack if need be; much like the Knight of Gold (KOG [FSS].) As for performance, it's well balanced between speed, weight, and strength; a good Mech for the fray.
the pilot is a mercenary, and not a happy fellow at that. in fact the Nightmare is the rival of the Agave; in fact while designing the Agave heavy armor, this Nightmare suit came to be.
it's not an ancient suit either, more or less modern in the time frame of the story, where-as the Agave has been around for several hundred years; earth years, for all you FSS die-hards.
though heavy and strong, it cannot go up against the Agave heavy armor, or it will be decimated with one blow from the "mach 1" slash (cause the Agave H.A. has a generator/power booster on it's back.) the Agave (not the HA) has another advantage over the Nightmare, it's built better because it comes from a Nation, while the Nightmare comes from a mercenary-for-hire, so it doesn't get the nice attention and funding the Agave gets; which is why the pilot of the Nightmare has got a grudge against Rico (pilot of the Agave.)
later on, the suit becomes a true heavy armor, but has switched allegiances because the pilot (no name yet) got bought-out as a full time Knight to a rival power (the bad guys), but once realizing that he gave up his freedom for power and greed, the pilot turns against his evil masters and aids the good guys in the destruction of the power hungry nation.
here's the suit before i added the arms, so you can see what the side skirt looks like:[link]

Funny thing about those smudges, they're invisible to the naked eye, but when you scan it in and then adjust the "levels" then they show up. They can be erased easily, but often after many hours of drawing one just wants to scan it and get it over with; especially when you want the damn thing to be done XD. Sometimes I photoshop them out, sometimes.
Yea, it does look interesting, and helps the Mech pop out of the page. Before too awful long I'll be rescanning many pages after cleaning them, but things are tricky at the moment between 2 jobs and being tired, so I'm not exactly motivated. I more or less keep pressing forward, and anything else can be fixed in the future (once the design meets my diehard approval.) In the meantime, the smudges, ya like 'em or don't, either way they're staying for a bit longer ;D
Wonderful to see this thing finally finished! Excellent form all around! I think a Veil (shield) would be an excellent piece of optional equipment, but that's just me. ^_^

yup smudges can wait
I also like how the arm-guards are curved, creating variation which helps it stand out from the sharp-edged armor plating of the mech
Excellent work!
